Can anyone recommend a good (free) SEO stat software/website? To do stuff like track keyword positions, inlinks, etc.

You have to use SEOStudio for your SEO work tracking.

The above post is a typical example of the sorts of posts that we prefer not so see on WebmasterWorld.

roseplant,

This is not the best way to phrases a question on WebmasterWorld as it simply gets loads of people advertising their favourite piece of software.

Be especially wary of people recommending a single product.

Anyone who plans to suggest a piece of software, should at least show the depth of their knowledge by recommending a few if they can, so that the original poster can go and make their own judgements.

My main recommendation is: Don't use one if you can avoid it. Google hates them but that is not the reason not to use them. the reason not to use them is atht it focuses your online strategy towards a subset of useful keywords. A LOT of research has gine into "the long tail" which demonstrates that your best sales will not materialize from your biggest search phrases. Focusing on top positions on your big phrases removes the focus on generating targeted traffic to the long tail (which, frankly, is pointless when measured using these tools).

So - don't do it - at least, don'r use it as a KPI.

But - given that people wholeheartedly and continually ignore this advice, 10 ways to do this are:

Google sitemaps
digital point
web position 3
trellian
webceo
agent webranking
SE commando
top dog
seo toolkit
SEO elite

The above are just the ones I recall - so I apologize if some of these have gone south over the years.

Just one more bit of advice - try not to do it... (Oh, I said that didn't I?)
