Hi Folks;

I'm running WebTrends 7.1b and it's been great for several months but now I get this error more & more often;

Exception occurred: Error encountered while uncompressing the local FastTrends Database: D:\Program Files\WebTrends\modules\analysis\engine\7.1b\WebmasterWorldtx\datfiles\databases\Uj8jYkqSVT5 - (39) Bad CRC

In the past I solved it by making a copy of the profile and then re-analyzing all the data but the thing is the problem seems to be getting worse.

Today I followed the error to the directory and found the Uj8jYkqSVT5 file missing - the directory is empty. Other times the content has been there yet the error occurs anyway.

Does anyone have any ideas on this one?

BTW, the logfiles that I get this error from are SDC generated. :-)

Just a guess, but it sounds to me like a worsening hard disk problem on your d: drive. I would check your system event log and also run some hard disk checks.

Hi cgrantski;

Thanks for the reply!

I looked through the WebTrends KB as well and they mentioned this error also comes up with a corrupt logfile. If during analysis WT encounters a line it doesn't like apparently it can cough with this error.

I'm quite certain my disks are OK (they're mature 15K SCSI drives) and they get checked often with no apparent defects.

What I did notice though is that this time around when the error cropped up I just left it and waited to see if it would sort itself out (it's sheduled to run every hour). After a few hours of 'misses' it went back to working again with no data loss.

Perhaps it's an issue of the logfile being in a certain state during the scheduled task and then after more data gets written to it - it works. It's just a guess but I'll let it run for a month, error or no, and see if it always sorts itself out.
