I have recently noticed a huge amount of 404 errors coming through for pages and folders that do no exist.

ie. http://www.example.com/weekend-getaway-california/return/sehenswuerdigkeit_las_vegas_woche.htm

or

http://www.example.com/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?UL=1&ACT=4&BUILD=6403&STRMVER=4&CAPREQ=0

Has anybody had experience with this before?

Thanks!

Bots searching for pages and files types to exploit.

I get loads of them and they are all for exploitable files (if I had them installed) like phpbb and others.

Ban or ignore the IP's.

Kevin,

If you site is safe from those types of files, I feel that there is no value to having those files reported in your stats, they just add 'static'.

To get rid of the the clutter, you might just try either a) using some type of conditional to have the log ignore those files, or b) tell your stats package to ignore those requests.
