Example: I append a URL Variable or "tracking code" to the end of my PPC campaign URL - www.domain.com/index.html?source=google
I would define "tracking code" as a Campaign ID. I am not so sure WebTrends 7 defines their Campaign ID as I do. Any suggestions?
Are there any articles on the extent of possibilities using tracking codes with Webtrends 7 reports? i.e. geopgraphy drill down, commerce, etc...
Thank you!
Matt
Also append another parameter - "keyword=whatever". The keywords in the referral field may not be the keyword you think you paid for.
Then set up WT to do this 2-way parameter analysis: primary parameter is Source, 2ndary parameter is Keyword.
That's one way. Another is to set up a whole profile to which you apply an include-type hit filter for page index.html (you can use page * if your PPC traffic goes to more than just the index page) and parameter is source and value of the parameter is google. All the above - page, parameter, parameter value - are defined in the hit filter definition. Then run the profile and you'll get a report on everything google PPC visitors do - pages viewed, downloads, all the usual. If you include a parameter analysis for the parameter keyword, you'll see all the keywords used too.
If you have Custom Report capability in your version of WT, you can do other cool things, like compare the keyword you paid for (in the keyword parameter) with the keyword variation that people actually found you through (from the referrer field). You can also make a custom report that shows, for each keyword, what pages people visited. And so on.
The trick is to have the parameter you already are using plus the additional keyword parameter I recommended, then you can do a lot. You do not need to use the WT parameters, although WebTrends has some good canned reports on PPC that will auto-configure if you use their parameter names. If you use WT's parameters don't forget WT.srch=1.
