I seem to get an awful lot of visits from inktomisearch.com
What does this bot do (except waste my bandwidth) and can I safely ban it without adversely affecting my rankings somewhere?

Thanks

try it and see what happens.

usually, bots don't take up THAT much traffic. and besides most hosts allow gigabytes of traffic, so although the hit count may be high, the bandwidth may not be.

what are some statistics that you can share with us about your site?

surfgatinho,

If its really from inktomi you might want to give it free reign. If you don't know who inktomi is, then don't worry about it.

I'd suggest checking the IP that it came from and see if its an inktomi address, and then decided from there.

Banning Slurp will affect your rankings in Yahoo. You could try to slow it down first with robots.txt and crawl-delay?

OK so this is a Yahoo thing. Banning it would be about as productive as cuttnig my feet off then as I do OK in Yahoo.
It does seem remarkably busy though.
