I'm setting up a URL rebuilder with an "Exclude all except..." rule:

name(when URL = /ex/example.asp)

When I review my reports, will the only thing I see for example.asp be with my "name" parameter included? i.e. example.asp?name=something

Will I be able to see other views of that page with the other params too? i.e. example.com?name=something&face=somethingelse

It seems the purpose of URL rebuilding is to only view the page with the specified params (so I'd be out of luck seeing more), but I just want to verify.

My goal is to show the amount of times example.com?name= shows up, but I'd also like to see the views with other params involved.

Let me know if that is too confusing.

While we're on the subject, can anyone explain what the "retain original URL" option does? I learn best with examples (the reason why I can't totally figure it out yet; lack of examples). Thanks again.

Matt, it's possible that what you want to do can be easily done another way. Before you get involved in URL Rebuilding, try a simple URL parameter analysis. It'll be pretty obvious how to do it if you go into that part of report configuration. Your resulting URL Parameter Analysis table will show all the values of "name=" as they occurred for example.asp, plus the total number of times "name=" appeared with any value. And best of all none of your other reports will be changed by doing this.

If I'm oversimplifying and you want something else, say so. But URL Rebuilding is a relatively new feature used for slightly exotic purposes and I think it's the long way around for what you want. URL Parameter Analysis on the other hand is a real workhorse within the WebTrends suite of tools, and I think is more appropriate for what you describe.

Seems like that's the best way to go. I guess it's not necessary to get too crazy with it. I'll try it out tomorrow. Thanks.
