I'm trying to re/create a better visibility score than the one from Webposition Gold by assigning point values to each rank position. Example: #1 is worth 100 points, #2 is worth 70, #3 is worth 30, etc.

Does anyone know of good data/reports indicating the average relative click volume different positions get? I know I've seen some stuff indicating the fall-off between result pages, but I can't turn up anything per-result.

I don't know of any reasearch. If you wanted to do it yourself, you could use Overture so that way you can contol your position. Also remember that each search engine would have different values since they all have different levels of ppc ads wrapped around the organic positions.

For what it's worth, we've researched it for the sites we manage and for those sites the "correct" values on Google are, rounded off and assuming #1 is 100%: 100%, 80%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 20%, 10% ....

On Overture: 100%, 95%, 90%, 70%, 70%, 20%, 10%

However, I think the numbers would be different for different sites.

And the blip for #3 on Google is real, probably having to do with #3 being #1 on the sidebars.
