apache log file specification

can't find a spec for the apache log file format...

I am currently writing a program to help me analyze my web results. I want info that I can't get from my regular web log analyzer.

trouble is I can't find a definitive specification on the apache log format anywhere. Does such a thing actually exist? Or, do I need to deduce the rules from my weblogs?
