I've been looking thru my logs recently and found that there are steady 4 requests a day from URL like this:

"hitstats.net\stats\?VFJDSz0xMjgx" - well I’ve changed to backslash.

so I went to that site to id out that it is very bad site and obviously they are up to something no good.

page is loading some url's in the background, parsing hits to some pages. then loads a page with "M@KE M@NEY" site with 800 number to call.

If i go to root URL of that site it offers webmasters to make mne by signig up for their services or sharing traffic with them of some sort.

My question is Can these mean something bad for my site as far as SE rankings or get my site banned for this reason?

I emailed the admin@ that site, here is his reply:

I could not answer that for you.

I can tell you that we operate multiple sites and adservers and traffic delivery systems used by hundreds of agencies worldwide.

I would assume that you purchased some form of advertising somewhere across the web recently.

I can tell you that--your order was not placed directly with us as we do not directly have an order for this URL.

I wish I could help more but the only person who could answer more would be the sales agent you purchased advertising thru

Thanks

They are spamming log files, with the goal of getting curious webmasters to go look at their sites. Hopefully, you will forget what slimy technique got you there and buy something from them.

I'd either just ignore them or block their IP address from reaching your server.

Mostly I'm amazed people find time to look at their log files that closely. With over a million page views a month I'd either slip into a coma reviewing the entire log file or wet myself with what I did find.

I find I tend to sleep better at nights when I just look over the daily log analysis and leave it at that.

I don't think people literally look at log files, but most web stats programs show the top referrers and sometimes these log spammers appear in those lists.
