I tried to add a new entry in browser.ini to get Webtrends to know Firefox as browser. With the help I could find in the knowledge base I could not solve it to be working.

Anybody knows how to add a new browser to Webtrends?

The problem is that a lot of people switch their UA to IE so that they can view stupid site that require IE.

We have Webtrends Reporting Center Enterprise Edition.

We found that sites working fine on IE and Netscape have a problem on Firefox so we need some stats on it.

I was able to do a custom report to track Firefox but it is very annoying that it is not shown in the standard browser report. According to statmarket the market share of Firefox increased from 3 % to 4 % from November until December of last year.

Beat, how did you identify Firefox and what did you do to try to get it to show in regular reports?

Most visitors using Firefox seem to have the word Firefox in the user agent. So I did a custom report showing me all user agents with Firefox in it.

The official way (as to my understanding) to add a new browser is to add it to browsers.ini. I added the following lines in that file:

Browser23=FIREFOX

[FIREFOX]
log=Firefox
text=Firefox

I think the procedure has changed since that KB article. I've dinked around with this in the past but now, since seeing this item, I want to get it done because their posted method isn't working. So I have put in a tech request. I'll post any answers here.

Oops yes, sorry, they got back to me awhile ago. Turns out there are two copies of browsers.ini and they both need to be modified the same way:

storage\config\component\lookupdata
storage\config\engine\7.0

Add these in the appropriate places - substitute the appropriate number for "27" -

Browser27=FIREFOX

[FIREFOX]
log=FIREFOX
text=Firefox

In Webtrends 6 there is only one browsers.ini.

Does this mean Firefox can only be added to Webtrends 7?

It works on Webtrends 6 too. All I had to do was to change my setting from

log=Firefox (which is how I found the user stored in the logfiles)
to
log=FIREFOX (as mentioned in your post).

With everything in capital letters it works.
