How do I differentiate between ppc and se listing traffic?

I have access to the "sitemeter" logging system and also the web log files

Hi,

I would like to be able to prove to my client how much % of his traffic is coming from se listings and how much is coming from ppc and how much is just arriving at his site from adverts in newspapers. Is there a best method of doing this?

I have access to the I have access to the "sitemeter" logging system and also the web log files.

I can download from the sitemeter a .csv file that has the url of all the refering pages. I could go through each line and have a look at the refering link and see if has a ppc or se listing of this particular site. There are several hundred that I would have to go through. Is there a better way?

Thank you.

Easiest way to track PPC traffic is probably to set up tracking URLs like so for each listing ...

www.domain.com?source=adwords&kw=keyword_phrase

This will allow you to filter out PPC traffic. You can use similar methods for banner traffic, offline ad campaigns, etc.

Organic search engine traffic (along with people typing in your site name, etc) will be obvious by the lack of tracking codes. Look at referring domains to work out how much of this is from the search engines.

I don't use site meter ... if it can't give you all of the info above, it might be time to change your log analysis software.
