This must be a real stupid question. I looked here and did a search with (G) on both the web and newsgroups.

I keep getting visitors that generate 404’s. The pages are …

****.****.xxx.xxx - - [24/Jun/2004:04:48:30 -0400] "GET /dir/PageTitle_files/ads.htm HTTP/1.0" 404 7557 "http://www.mydomain.com/dir/page.html" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)"
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - - [24/Jun/2004:04:48:39 -0400] "GET /dir/PageTitle_files/CAX00B9T. HTTP/1.0" 404 298 "http://www.mydomain.com/dir/page.html" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)"
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - - [24/Jun/2004:04:48:39 -0400] "GET /dir/PageTitle_files/cm.htm HTTP/1.0" 404 298 "http://www.mydomain.com/dir/page.html" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)"

Is it some kind of cache or bookmarks or something?

I don't know what causes them, but I get them as well. I wonder if they are related to saving pages offline, as that creates a site_files directory, or if they are some monitor looking for copied pages.

(hoopla - 100th post!)

I get them too. I think it's just a bot that's too stupid to know how to follow links properly.
