General type in traffic statistics

My apologies if this isnt the right place to post this...I am looking for statistics and articles on type in traffic and how reliable it is. I have a client that has multiple websites with very simple urls that get a large amount of type in traffic. This client does no other marketing at all. Their revenue is down this year and I am trying to convince them that additional marketing is the key to increasing revenue. They do not agree and say that type in is all they need. Any information or resources anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe a better question to ask would be how would you convince a client that is making big money using only type in traffic to use other types of marketing? Thanks

You can persuade people more easily if you know their decision model. Is their resistance because they perceive getting other kinds of traffic would be expensive? Draw attention from the wrong parties? Overload their fulfillment system?
