is one more accurate than the other?

I hope this question hasn't been beaten to death already.

The hosting company that I use the most has had various versions of LiveStats installed for several years. While the software was finicky, it provided a lot of information.

The last two versions have been a disaster, and the hosting company has installed AWstats while waiting for a patch for LiveStats.

I immediately noticed a difference in the number of visitors reported. The number of visitors that AWstats is reporting is about 60% of what LiveStats was showing. So now I don't know which program to believe.

Any opinions?

Yeh - we had a problem believing Livestats too.

I have no experience with Awstats, but this is what we found with Livestats when comparing against javatagging systems:

For very low traffic sites, livestats seemed to overestimate visitors. For higher traffic it underestimated.

Now, we stopped after version 5, because version 6 crashed our servers, so much may have changed. But that was our experience. We now use clientside tagging.
