strange logs with a code 414

help in interpreting these logs please

hello,

since yesterday i'm founding dozens of logs originating from different IPs to my server and any of my v-sites, i've never seen these type of logs, they all have a code 414 = Request-URI Too Large.

It's a buffer overrun exploit attempt.
Since Apache rejected it, the attempt was unsuccessful.
The server response was: 414 Request-URI Too Long

Thanks Jim, i've now updated a couple of security patches on my server and those attacks finally ceased.
