Like that we are able to see what keywords people were using that got to that page through search engines and how many (and which) pages those people were looking at.
We got some good insight trough that and could do changes to get a better performance. But so far we have to do a filter and a report for every page we want to look at. Before we see anything the report takes one hour to be generated.
Is there an easier way to track people who entered a specific page?
I feel like this question gets asked twice a week. Most recently here:
[webmasterworld.com...]
Will someone build a keyword tracking tool for dummies, make it free and require absolutely no work, and then sponsor pubcon so you can have a banner advertising this free program on the site.
The question was "Is there an easier way to track people who entered a specific page?"
I was not asking from which search engines the visitors come from.
My question was how to track what people are doing AFTER they came from a search engine.
We have pages that attract many people through SE but then those people leave after a short time without going to any other page.
On other pages we see that the visitors that came through SE were sticking to the site and reading 5 - 10 pages. Obviously those are the ones that are more intersting so we are using WebTrends to see which pages should be changed as it attracts users through keywords that the page was not intended for but that for some reason got good rankings. With little changes those people can be kept on the site.
It is possible to do that with our WebTrends Entreprise Edition but we have to generate a filter and a report for every page which is very time consuming. So maybe somebody came up with a smarter idea to do the same thing.
Define a Custom Report and give it a name such as "Characteristics of Visits for Different Entry Pages". For the Dimension (the rows) select Entry Page. For the Measures (the columns) select Visit Page Views (choose Average Of, don't take the default Sum Of). Since you can have four measures or so, you may as well also specify Visit Duration (Average of), Number of Visits, and Percent of All Visits. You won't have to define any Filters for this, so you're done.
Then activate the report for your Profile by editing the Profile by choosing the Custom Reports tab and checking the box next to the new report name. Also be sure that the Template you're using for reports will display Custom Reports. That's it.
To get this data retrospectively, you'll have to Re-Analyze. If you just want it going forward, you don't have to.
With all this, you should end up with a list of every entry page, and for each, the number of pages in the average visit that started with that entry page, their average duration, the number of visits that started with that page, and what percent of all visits started with that page.
I hope I'm interpreting your need correctly.
The question of flashfan made me dig through the manual again and I came up with just the solution you described. The re-analysis is running right now and I wanted to wait for the analysis to be finished before posting what I found.
I never created a custom report but I am beginning to realizse its potential!
cfx211 I know how boring it gets to read the same questions again and again so I know what lead to your first post.

Sawmill has a "Paths through the site" function. This can be a little tedious to use, but can be used to work out the above.
One thing that is missing is (sadly) the ability to track conversions from specific keywords, but there are other tools around that allow you to do this.
