Hi Guys,
I was looking thru my database which logs a record for every page view on the site into a mySQL db. I noticed that someone under the IP of 64.68.84.49 and 64.68.84.39 and others has been trying to index pages that do not exist.

At first I though it was someone downloading page by page from my site eg item_detail.php?c_id=3389, item_detail.php?c_id=3390, item_detail.php?c_id=3391 and just using a bot to add 1 and download the next id ( i know i should fix that :)). However, i ran the IP's and they come up as legit Google Ip's.

But why on earth would Google be trying to download things that do not exist?

Weird...

There is (or perhaps was) a link to them somewhere. if you follow those links are you getting a 404 response?

Thansk mate..
No, they were never any pages with those ID numbers and they have never existed.

The pages die as they should when I try that address.

The way it looks to me is as if someone is trolling my site and trying all possible ID numbers but when I check that IP it is within Google's range so it would have to be Google doing it but they can only follow links that are there unless something underhanded is going on.
