Not much goin on Googling Imse/0.02 [google.com], but five or six .edu stat pages.

Nor does Yahoo! [search.yahoo.com] or AltaVista [altavista.com] for that matter.

So, I can guess the new part fairly easy, but it's the intent I have a problem with.

Anyone else been visited?

I have seen it in my logs in the above and other formats. I haven't added it to my browscap.ini file yet because I cannot confirm what it is or exactly where it's from.

Based on my own gut feeling I am somewhat suspicious of the first result on Google when I search on imse all by itself.

A more likely source might be the first few entries when you Google on "Wayfinder Systems AB" which makes products for mobile phones.

Any thoughts based on my suggestions?

Yes, a wap or imode proxy/agent. However, that's just my thought.

Well, new technologies (having Internet access type functions available) will be calling on our websites. And in ever increasing names, numbers, varieties, purposes and with varying results.

But that's not going to stop them from trying their favorite site(s) they've been to on the laptop or home unit...just to see how they look and or function.

This list does not show it:
http://webcab.de/wapua.htm as the site mentions how those listed are only a ...subset of the more than 900 WAP browsers known by WebCab.de.

Without digging too much at the moment, I'd say WebCab.de would have a small listing of these inventions. What we'd then need would be a concise listing of these critters in order to prepare for them.

Give them a reason to use the technology and they will use it.

How would we get together such a list?

Is there one available now?

I'm here to tell you, I don't see those "How do I ban (insert WAP UA here)?" threads, that'll surely be happening in the future, as anywhere near pre-emptively helpful. Nope. Nada. Nill.

On the other hand, maybe there is no such compilation.

I have a large section in my browscap.ini file under the parent "WAP Devices." I also have a file with several hundred WAP user agents that a kind volunteer sent me that I haven't had time to process and add to browscap.ini. I'd be pleased to make that list available to anyone who wants it.

I hadn't looked at the file I mentioned until now. It contains the sample data from WebCab.de. :(

However, I'm sure there's still something we can do to. For example, I can make a list available via the website in my profile and encourage people to submit WAP user agents. I have a form to facilitate submission of new user agents and I'd just link them to that.

I've also got a MS SQL Server db with nearly 30,000 user agents in it. I wonder if I can somehow come up with a query that will find likely WAP user agents that I don't already have in my browscap.ini file.

And that's just the question to post in a new thread. Just not sure which forum would be the best. The issue will eventually addressed by others.
