Favicon not found (404 in logs)

Relevant to number of times your site has been bookmarked?

Im curious about this question. Is the number of times a 404 on your favicon.ico occurs, in your logs, a reasonably accurate representation of how many times your site has been bookmarked?

This is just an assumption based on the fact we dont have a favicon and that because of this we get a 404 in our logs when the favicon is requested(the user bookmarks the page? or are there other instances when the favicon is requested? Such as mozzila using in tabs etc.)

Curious if this assumption could be correct :)

Thanks.

Not really. It's also downloaded to be displayed in IE's address bar when you browse a page on the site.

Look for the word DigExt in the HTTP_USER_AGENT field, it indicates adding the site to the favourites with the 'Make available online' box checked.
