cheapest/free database for looking up city names from ip addresses?

I'm aware of a few databases for IP to Country look ups. I'm not sure what the rules are about mentioning other companies. If you want the URLs send me a sticky.

I'm also aware of a few database that cost about $400 just to get a database to get city names from IP addresses. It's a bit much. Again I'm not sure of the rules about mentioning any type of URL on WW so if you want the links for these send me a sticky.

But does anyone know where to get a cheaper/free database for converting ip addresses to city names? Surely there is one somewhere. Any help appreciated - it would in turn help about 40,000 other people :)

I am using a Website that has an online lookup capability, and also provides the PERL/CGI code if you want to have your on capability to look up domestic USA locations:

PS - the default server - root.rwhois.net doesn't work, change it to rwhois.arin.net. [root.rwhois.net...] has a lot more information, and may even have a "One-stop" solution to your question.

For other locations, here is the URL to a webpage that has links other regional databases (RIPE, etc):
