My program isn't reading my log files

I am trying to use a program from SmarterTools to read my log files. The files in my directory just about all end with .gz extensions. My host tells me they are compressed zip files. I keep getting zero good rows and the rest are bad rows. Whatever that means. Anyone have any experience with this, would appreciate some help.
Thanks.
By the way, I use apache common log format, which my host initially told me was the way to do this.

Maybe you are trying to feed the .gz files into the log program without extracting them first? .gz files can be opened with winzip, then you extract your log file from there

Thank you. I had to scuttle the SmarterTools because they don't have a way to read the .gz files. I am trying to get WebLog Expert Lite up now. Problem is I am not really familiar with what I am trying to do. And have done searches. Anyplace I can go to see how to proceed? I have it downloaded but need a push of somekind from there.
Thanks again.
