Hi:

For the second week in the row my log - Apache Common Extended - shows line like that:

AnISP.net - - [06/Oct/2003:22:16:26 -0400] "HEAD / HTTP/1.0" 200 0 "-" "None"

It appears in the log semi-regularly in 10-minute intervals for 60-90 minutes 3-4 times every day. It is a lot of lines!

Obviously it has no usual GET command and it has no bandwidth usage.

I contacted <AnISP>, which is one of the largest in the US, with no response.

I have also uptime monitoring services, but it's records are different.

Curiously enough: I am testing a number of analytic programs. The line is not observed by none of them at all!

I will appreciate any advice.

antarve,

It may be the ISP's caching proxy checking to see if the page has changed. If not, it will serve its own copy to users of that ISP to save network (and your) bandwidth. AOL does this a lot.
