Identifying visitors to my sites

I am interested in identifying the visitors to the sites that I manage, and am currently doing so using a real-time monitoring program, coupled with a manual effort (ip address entry) through an online reverse directory. I am pleased with what I have been able to discover - is there an easier way than entering each IP into the reverse directory? The monitoring program that I am using was not originally designed to be used as I am using it. Any suggestions on how I can make this process more efficient?

I have to admit I have read your post a few times and not really come up with any great wisdom. There are a lot of programs out there for analyzing traffic.

It depends what info you are looking for in the reverse lookup. I know with some packages you can get them to lookup ip's for geographical info.

Thanks Jatar_K!

I am somewhat glad that I have a question that doesn't have an answer....

I am using these online techniques for the OEM supply side of the manufacturing world. Most of my clients never really understood what marketing was, let alone what types worked and what metrics to use to determine effectiveness. Now with most of them being bombarded with internet based marketing info, I am trying to stay ahead by attempting to identify the "clicks" while fine tuning content. In advance of optimization (work in progress), we are using more conventional methods to drive traffic to the client sites. I am able to validate the traffic activity with hit data at the largest of large companies (those who have purchased large IP blocks), and have whetted my appetite for more.

As I find ways to get more info, I will post. Thanks for your time and consideration!
