Duplicating Another Site's Cookie

duplicating merchant's affiliate cookies

Hello all,

Not sure if I'm in the right forum, but I have a question about cookies and I don't know anything about them. I'm wondering if it's possible to duplicate another site's cookie by examining one I've downloaded from them. I'm thinking if I duplicate a merchant's affiliate cookie (I'm an affiliate for the merchant) and insert my affiliate ID, then I'd get commissions from my site visitors if they purchase from the merchant's site, even if they never click through on an actual affiliate URL.

I'm just trying to use direct product links for a merchant who doesn't provide them (main page and category links only). Obviously I can create much better content and get better conversions if I can list individual products and send visitors right to them. If this is possible, could I insert affiliate info for multiple merchants in one cookie? Any advice or instruction greatly appreciated.

Regards,
CliffR

Can't be done, and for very good reasons.

domain.com can't set cookies for otherdomain.com.

Hi CliffR,

Have you tried talking to the merchant about offering direct product links?

They may have a good reason for not doing so; or they may not have thought about it that much - it is worth letting them know that you would like to do it, and that could swing them into action.

Drop 'em an email.
