affiliate ID hijacking

How do they do it.

I all one for conspiracy theories and usually believe the worst.
There has been a bit of talk about people hijacking your banners and cookies to a sponsor so they get credit for the sale.I have at least 1 site that I know of that has ripped my site of 100% and is completely identical.
I thought it was a parody now I am not so sure.Can someone teel me how these scams work and how can we protect against them?

That's a new one on me, but here is how I would do it if I was so inclined...

I would PRETEND to be the merchant, offering you a good deal, but then assign you MY affilliate ID so that whatever you did from there on in, I'd get the money for all your hard work.

Luckily I don't need your money :)
