R Many people using scripts rather than software?

I came across the above page which seems to have exactly the sort of information that would actually be useful, unlike urchins output!.

i.e.

1) How many visitors
2) Where they linked from
3) Which page the entered on
4) what search engine they used.
5) what they searched on.
6) which pages of my site they looked at
7) which page they left the site on.

I'm wondering though if rather than paying for softwares which provide a lot of information that i don't really think is useful, if in fact the information above could be collected by a simple asp script of some kind?.
Are others here using such scripts in preference to the softwares?.
