CPanel 6 raw stats log

I've recently changed hosts. My previous host provided raw stats logs via FTP with file located at /var/log/httpd/access_log

My new host uses CPanel 6, I could not find the raw log file via FTP. There is an icon in CPanel for Raw Access Logs. When you click on it it prompts to download a .gz file. I use Winrar to upack this file and it is a MS-DOS program named "mydomain.com"?

Where's the log file?

Hi. You found it. The "mydomain.com" file is the raw log. If you're on a Windows machine, and if it's a small file, you can open it in Notepad, or if it's a large file, you can open it in Wordpad. That's what I do, anyway. If you're on a Mac or Linux, I'm not sure what to use to open it. Hope this helps.

....or download a stats program analog and view the results. These stats programs will analyse a .gz file.

My host gives me cpanel too. When I attempt to download the raw log, it sends me a file just like that (mydomain.com) but instead of getting the log file, I get the working log (last few hours -- size depends on how long it's been since the contents were dumped to the main log).

It's an apache server. I have ssh'd to the host and tried every *nix trick I knew (not a lot, but I have a few . . .:) to find the real log file and no dice!

Awstats and Webalizer are able to read my raw log just fine (stats go back 5 months).

Analog is a bit messed up. It seems to read in the raw log repeatedly (I guess it expects weekly logs, not one big one?) and so shows umpteen thousand hits for January, stuff like that. It also doesn't know how to DNS lookup.

My hosting company is run by literal amateurs (they know what they're doing, but they're doing it in their free time) and they're not very responsive to my complaints, so I'm wondering what I can do.
