I'm using Webtrends Log Analyzer and just noticed that half of my page views came from a proxy server. (proxy.SITENAME.com) This can't be accurate. What is the accuaracy of visits from proxy servers? And does anyone understand how they work?

Thanks!

Proxies are usually used to cache content and hence speed up access to that content for the users behind the proxy.

It's not unusual to see the proxy.whatever.tld in logs. Over half of your visitors using a (the same?) proxy would seem high/odd.

Unless your logs are too large, I'd check them manually (throw a few scripts at them) to verify what your log software is telling you.
