Folks,

is it possible to trace back the geo location of the various AOL, T-Online or other proxies?

Example of a german user requests:
- cache-frr-ac01.proxy.aol.com
- dess-d9b846de.pool.mediaways.net

Does the portion -frr- mean Frankfurt or Freiburg or does the portion dess- mean the german city Dessau? If so, is it possible for someone from Munich to connect through a Proxy that seems to be located at Frankfurt?

Additional question: is there a list somewhere with the various proxies that AOL, T-Online and others use (ip + location) or some info about the general use and structure of various proxy networks?

Sorry dont knwo the answers but I have a related question to this,

Is there any way of using the IP ranges, to determine the country, without doing a realtime lookup.

Are there available lists of IP ranges for coutries / regions or are they not allocated this way?

aspdaddy,

unfortunately you don't have a answer to my question. But i have a answer to yours. ;)

>IP ranges for coutries / regions or are they not allocated this way

Nope, ip ranges (classes) are totally apart from any country specifics. P.ex. there are many us universities that have their own class. I could have the same class instead of them in a totally nother country.

... at least AFAIK.
