Total spider visits - WebTrends figures don't add up

Can anyone explain the difference?

The figure reported for spider visits in the General Stats section does NOT tally with the total visits in the Visiting Spiders report (Browsers and Platforms section).

The numbers are close but not close enough and I'm having a hard time explaining why to my clients.

Once again, thanks a bunch Webtrends :-(

Use a one day report to run some tests. Run one report with ALL traffic, one with spiders filtered out, and one with only spiders. Comparing the reports you should be able to figure where the "mising" traffic is.

I don't think I need to do that. I know from the report table that the discrepancy is only on one spider (Googlebot), but I just don't know why WebTrends is reporting slighty different numbers.

But then WT has a habit of doing this, all over its reports :-(

WebTrends figures never quite add up in my experience. Server logs are full of quirks. If you compare webtrends reports to other methods of tracking that don't rely on server logs, you will see many descrepancies, not least in the number of uniques.

Can't explain your particular problem though...
