Is this new?

[buzz.yahoo.com...]

I know Yahoo Buzz has been around for a while, but I'd never seen this before:

"Subscribe now to the Buzz Index Weekly Report"

Also, they're trying to collect US Mail Address and Phone numbers?

Is all this new and I've been totally asleep, or was this newly launched?

Phone numbers - good for targetting by location, think geospecific advertising, etc.

email addresses - many, many uses.

If you like it, and you can get it, say, 1 hour before it's published on the site - you might be tempted to sign up.

And then, you can quote from it in online forums, :) and seem like you have the 'inside track'

(that's just a guess, I don't know that they email before they publish it on site, would be slick if they did, though)

The shocker to me was the US Mail and Phone Number.

Looks like Yahoo's gearing itself up to becoming a MEGA marketing power, imagine all the data they're gathering! Plus the keyword research, think how valuable this would be for offline businesses!

For example, I measure the sucess of offline ventures partially by checking our logs. This also helps me understand my target audience and create a more effective marketing plan.

It's a bit scary what Yahoo could do with all the data they have.
