Yahoo will go bankrupt by january... they have no customer service and i beleive are purposely making it harder to cancel any of their services from sbc to domain stuff... I have been waiting for days now to get the edit name servers option to appear on the web console all because someone at my company had already registered the domain name with them before i could with someone else... yahoo is *not good*

by the way... they have set up a 900 number for customer service for 1.99! thats jsut insane... not as insane as ms's support costs... but pretty insane... whatever happened to expecting what you pay for?

hmmmmm.....

Yes, Yahoo is *not good*.

No, they won't go bankrupt.

I'll stand on what I know. Yahoo! makes way too much money to just roll over and die in a mere three months. And the alliance with Google makes them 10 times stronger than they were before.

My prediction? Yahoo will go bankrupt......in 2099, when Google decides it doesn't need Yahoo anymore.

Fear the iron fist of Google. :(

Yahoo hat better then expected earnings this Q, so this is looking better for the company and they will make some money some day, the only thing that could mayube change things is if the merger with another company, like AOL and Time Werner.

I do invest much in american stocks, so I have a little insigt in the stock market.

Yahoo isn't going anywhere. Consumers, 'joe user' etc. al. like them way too much.

We'll know they are going under when and only when all your referrals come from Google.com. :) Or some country specific version of Google.

I agree with Jeremy. Yahoo just had good news for investers. They are, like it or not, a cornerstone of the web. They do so much more than directory and search. If they dropped search and their directory it wouldn't hurt them very much. Yes their $299 inclusion fee helps make money but they are making a lot of money with yahoo shopping, payed email, hosting and other ventures. I believe corporatly they maintain that search is not a top priority. Search is just a feature of their portal. I think it will be a long time before we see a chapter 11 from yahoo. I think a buy out would be more feasible.

I could list hundreds of businesses with terrible and non-existent customer service that still do very well.

Hogwash ;);)

Y! is one of the best branded companies in the world. Even if they get into trouble, which I doubt will happen they could turn it around over night with a swift management change....

Nick, you nailed it. Didn't they just get a new CEO in the last year? If this turn around plan that is just now bearing some fruit doesn't continue to do so...

I'd expect another CEO will be appointed to see if they can take the ball all the way to the end zone. :) (eg, continue making money quarter after quarter...)

I agree with Nick- it's more about branding than anything- in that area Yahoo has almost no rival.

ps nice meeting you in London :)

heh....sorry about that, heini.....I was just quoting the first post. :-P

Isn't Y! into the broadband buisness now? That alone will probably make them more money than the $299 registration fees.

I think, anyway.....

Yes, Yahoo! is full of lazy editors and they won't do any customer service, never.
Yahoo! is the first company I know with a "non-existent" customer service.

imo Yahoo would still be here. They provide the same service as Google, PLUS their own services. Coupled with branding, it's hard to see how they will fail anytime soon even without good customer service.

Nick_W said Hogwash!

adding... Rubbish! :) :)

A company that makes a living base solely on one marketing strategy that is subject to change (without notice) is the problem, not Yahoo!
