Sorry to say, but today was big disappointment.
1) Yahoo results are 100% same as Google.
2) AOL results are 100% same as Google.
3) Netscape results are 100% same as Google.
Now, give me one reason, why should a regular person use Yahoo search to find anything, why not just go straight to Google.
Now, give me one reason, why should AOL user visit yahoo.com to search anything, why not just use AOL search, as they are going to get the same results.
I am sure you got the drill and there is no need for me to repeat every place.
Also, I forgot to mention that, now there is not going to be any *paid* (US$ 299.00 + US$ 299.00/annual) submission to Yahoo, as now the results are going to be from Google and we would rather spend money buying/getting links, then submitting a site to yahoo.
For us, now there is just one more reason not to use Yahoo Search. Say goodbye to Yahoo Search -just use the Google toolbar.
Thanks and hope some human will read this email and consider the possible pros & cons of this decision.
In my opinion:
1) To rank high in Yahoo, you must rank high in Google
2) To rank high in Google, you must have a good PageRank
3) To have a good PageRank, you must have a Yahoo DIRECTORY listing
4) To have a Yahoo DIRECTORY listing, you must pay the $299
5) Proceed to step #1 above (because all your competitors will be)
I'm afraid that is indeed where your argument falls JK. It's simply not true.
It wasn't meant to be an argument, really --more of a thought. But, maybe I'm mis-informed about PR...so here's my question:
All else being equal, would a typical web page most likely have a higher or lower PR without a Yahoo directory listing?
I guess the point is that there is no Yahoo bonus for PR, the Yahoo directory page just has many characteristics of a valuable page to receive a link from as far as PR is concerned.

1. Google loads faster
2. Yahoo has lots of ads
3. G includes ODP categories
4. Y uses Y categories
5. Y results have Y! titles and descriptions if they are in the Y! directory
6. Y! has overture
7. G! has adwords
8. Y results are missing the indented G results
I am sure they are others.
And i would tend to agree with opinions around here that the default SERPs may not be final (though permamance of course is illusory in this business) and is odds on to change in the future to include results from other databases.
I agree 100%.
My point, (though I didn't express it very well) is that a typical affiliate site guy is very limited when he goes looking to increase his PR. The easiest and quickest way is through Yahoo's Express Submit.

Take away the Overture results from Y! and the Adwords from Google and for every search I have tried for the most important keywords (10 so far!)on Yahoo, Google, and Aol the results have been IDENTICAL!

The Yahoo Directory was great and cheap traffic for many small affiliates and Mom and Pop operations without the money for SEO or research. I suppose the characteristics that made the Directory easy to get into also created an atmosphere ripe for abuse.
Have the results page look like this:
1. Sponsored listings
site 1
site 2
site 3
2. Directory Listings
site 1
site 2
site 3
site 4
site 5
3. Web Matches
site 1
site 2
etc.
This way those who have good Y! listings but not google listings are not pissed off and do renew the $299/yr and at the same time delivering G results...Everyone is happy?
