My site was listed at Yahoo yesterday. Right now it is showing at 13 which is the last entry at page 1. How can I go up a little bit?

Another question: How does yahoo pages from a website? Do they send any kind of robots to scan the pages like other SEs do? Or they just reply on the title (is that web page title?) and description which appears on the directory listing?

Thanks in advance for all the comments.

Did you pay to submit to Yahoo?

Yes, I had to pay because my site is commercial in nature.

Yahoo Directory is a human edited directory, which appears to use some type of algo adjustment after inclusion.

You want to use leverage your title and description for a good initial listing, then hope your optimization techniques produce a lon lasting high listing.

Google PR has alot to do with your yahoo ranking, as does the title and disription (both super important) get them wrong and you wont be able to really climb...

with a paid listing you should be able to change your title/desription once but be very sure its perfect...

No, it is a directory, not a crawler.

Or they just reply on the title (is that web page title?) and description which appears on the directory listing?

They rely on the title that was given to your site at the time it was submitted. It isn't necessarily what appears in your <title> tags (although the editors look at that when giving a title to a site).

With the new way Yahoo's displaying results, everything has changed. We have to study that first before determining a plan of action.

Well, I mentioned before my site was coming up at 13 with the main keyword. Now with this "new and improved" stuff the directory listing has taken a back seat. The site is still at 13 on the directory listing. But I doubt how many users will click one more time and go to the directory section. Looks like I just wasted $299. Free lunch seems to better than a $299 lunch plate. Let's see what Google does at the month end. Or may be I have to spend another $299 on Overture.

Better position on Google = Yahoo! at least for the time being. Good text content, keywords in your title, <h1> tags, and in the text, and lots and lots of links.
