Percentage of traffic from Yahoo

Is 12% traffic from Yahoo good for a mature (thats time not porn) website.

We were added to Yahoo back in 1998, when it was free. Our website has matured and Yahoo acconts for approx 12% of our traffic, down from 30% when we first started.

Our text listing is OK, but if I knew now, what I did 5 years ago, I would have done it differently.

Is 12% traffic from Yahoo good for a mature website receiveing traffic from all the major search engines, and othe sources.

If not, I could spin off the web site, and pay the $299 to get relisted. This would however require quite a bit of work, to make the site look like its a different company (to get around the one company one listing rule).

12% sounds great.

In the past I would've advised a new submission with a "spin off", but lately I've seen such a decrease of traffic from Yahoo that now I wouldn't suggest it, especially because you have pretty good traffic coming from them.

There are a few things you can do to improve your current listing. Read through this forum for some ideas.

I look at capturing as close to 100% of Internet traffic as possible for my keyword phrases. I infer the percentage of traffic I am capturing by finding out how many times a keyword phrase is searched in a month and dividing that by how many referrals I am getting from various sources (Yahoo!, Google, MSN, AOL). If Yahoo! is delivering 12% and I am getting a combined 70% from the others, then 12% is fine. But if the combined capture rate for my keyword phrases is only 30%, then I would say 12% horrible. For my industry Yahoo! is the mother ship and 12% would not be very good.
