Seems there are two different directories showing a different number of indexed pages when searching for the keyword in question.
For roughly 3 out of every 5 searches it is showing:
1-10 out of 524 sites
Then for the other 2 out of 5 searches it is showing:
1-10 out of 501 sites
2 of the 3 sites that are referenced in that thread disappear from the top 10 SERPs when the smaller of the two directories is displayed.
This simply made me wonder if perhaps the two sites in question were just new additions and the larger of the two directories is the latest update.
After doing some checking across other keyword searches I'm seeing the same phenomenon as well. Is this a symptom of a a new "Yahoo Dance" that we can expect regularly as with Google?
Another interesting note... on one very comptetitive keyword search I'm seeing a gap of over 200 sites + or - between the alternating directories.
In this particular keyword search the top 7 sites returned are the same... but in a different order. So there seems to be a difference in the algo being applied *not* just the number of sites being displayed.
Not to mention the fact that even with a very common single keyword search I find it hard to believe that over 200 new sites have been added that would be relevant to this search term.
I'll be interested in hearing other's thoughts and observations as I continue to try and make sense of what I'm seeing.
I've got a new site, in yahoo for about a month & in Google for about 2 months.
For a 2 word keyword in my listing's title, I go from #1 to not listed in 57 Web Site matches. For another 2 word phrase, I go from #2 of 5 to not listed.
These dance changes have been alternating every other search (90% consistent), even when I immediately refresh.
Even checked from multiple ip's & had a buddy in another hemisphere confirm.
Other sites in the results seem to stay the same.
