Yahoo September Update?

Anyone have a guess when it will happen?

Am I correct in assuming that Yahoo updates their search results/positioning every month? Does anyone have an idea when the next update will take place?

It seems like the last one was just about a month ago and most of my sites moved up after getting a higher Google PR dring the last crawl.

I assume you are refering to the Google results and not the yahoo directory. PR will not effect the directory results. There is a lot of discussion on this site about the future of yahoo and Google and even if there will be one. I notive that yahoo arent using a current Google database. Perhaps soon they will not even be using google at all. If they are to continue with google there should be an update in yahoogle pretty soon.

I was referring to the directory results, but I was pretty certain that Yahoo used Google PR in their algorithm for ranking directory sites. One of my sites moved from #15 to #2 on Yahoo after going from PR1 to PR4 in the last Google update.

Nothing else changed (still no dmoz listing, etc.), so I figured that Google PR was definitely a factor.

I am guessing that Yahoo will update either Thursday or Saturday. At least my team's research shows this. Yahoo this summer has been weird... Of course it has something to do with the big Yahoo/Google deal, we should find out this month if Yahoo will stay with Google or not.

As for the comment about the Yahoo Update, yeah it should happen sometime this week. I wish it was like the beginning of this year, where Yahoo was updating there directory/search results almost 2 times a week. I have noted in the above posts that you have reffered to "directory listing" for yahoo, and I take it you mean the Yahoo Search Results, not the alphabetical listing in the Directory itself.

Hope this is of any help to you, all we can do is sit back and watch and see what happens. Although, my team is praying for Thursday, or Saturday.

Well... hopefully it will happen this Saturday. If it doesn't, I'll start to worry that Yahoo is in fact dropping Google...

Oh, and I'll say it for the MILLIONTH time - Yahoo directory SERPS DO use information from Google (in some manner). Anyone who says otherwise simply does not know what they are talking about.

I REALLY hope they update this Saturday, but what makes you guess that it will be this saturday?

I must admit Yahoo has been messing around with there update's over this summer. Things are changing that is for sure. As for updates, from Yahoo! Research shows, that Yahoo! updates around/after the first full week of the month, on Thursday or Saturday (looks like its going to be saturday, since no update on thursday). And after the big Google Dance, which occurs at the end of the month (August).

So let's just hope that Saturday is the update, I know I need it. Also, who knows how this month will be with the extended contract for YahooGle being up in the air this month.

That is a whole other discussion...

What do you mean by "Yahoo Update"? Is this when yahoo starts using the most recent Google update in their search results?

Thanks

Yahoo Update! Meaning that Yahoo pretty much brings the search results for a given keyword/combo of keywords up to date. Yes Yahoo takes information from Google as well as they do there own calculations and update.

The update definitely took place on Yahoo today... however, what's different was, this time it jumped back and forth a little like a GOOGLE DANCE. Hmm... that's a first. Interesting...

Yeah Jay I noticed that too. Very strange. Signs over this summer sure have been making the partnership between YahooGle stronger and stronger... Everything is pointing in the direction that they will continue working together and google will still provide the search technology. Which I feel is very good news...

I definitely have noticed a weird Yahoo dance also.

This yahoo update has been a big boost for my sites. Google PR definitely is a MAJOR factor.

Spam city. Bulk paid submission, hidden links among duplicate sites, purchased advertising on high pagerank sites... the "secrets" to a high Yahoo ranking.

Updated!

I agree that the major factor seems Google PR.

I am almost positive Google PR has been a major factor in Yahoo Updates for a while now. Google PR seems to be nothing new in Yahoo updates.

When do you think they will make their next update? When do you think you have to have submitted to them to make it into the next update?

Yahoo seems to be updating at the beginning of every month, usually the first week so...as soon as you can before then.

I also agree with the google PR aspect, but there are exceptions as I just saw quite a few sites with 0 PR ranked high for a competitive search.

Higher PR definitely boosted a site that had dropped a bit. However, on a site that had same PR as months before, it seems that there is just a rotation in progress IMO.
