If the keyword is competitve enough in the Yahoo directory, Yahoo wont return Google results. Yahoo will return pure Yahoo directory results.

Otherwise it will "backfill" with Google results.

Web sites and web pages are the same. Google.

Maybe it's the search you're using. Yahoo gives up directories over here.

Try a search for "humor" and tell us if you get directories or not.

Something is up a Y!

Although I am not seeing the "all Google" results, other people have in the last few days.

There is at least one other thread on this subject.

Powerstar is not seeing things.

BTW powerstar, welcome to WebmasterWorld

I saw no directory for a search term that had no corresponding directory sites, though it should have. Otherwise, I'm seeing both.

I am definitely JUST getting google results even for search terms that up until 2 days ago were displaying the Y! results first. (Location - London) This is good in some respects, but also rather annoying as only 2 weeks ago a client of mine payed to get listed in Y!.

Searched for "humor" still Google only results on Web Sites and Web Pages. Same results on Web Sites and Web Pages. For the second day the same thing. I am in the US (east cost). I saw it before but only for a short time, now for 2 days.

Yahoo seems to do this every once in a while. I'm not sure why, but I guess they are playing with their algorithms, or part of their server farm is down temporarily. I can't recreate what you're seeing here, so maybe it's fixed or you're being served a different set of SERPS.

I see no such weirdness in Yahoo results. The directory results appear ahead of google results

Yahoo's been fluctuating the results for about a month. I think they're testing something.

Yahoo is defintely testing something out.. we have been seeing this on and off for quit a while.. if you delete yoru cookies and use a browser like opera.. you will see you get the yahoo results again before googles.. yahoo is defintely testing out something... we also hear of yahoo testing out a ppc program.. lets hope that they dont go that route.. I dont think they will but then again, you never know, do ya?

As for the PPC model...

Here's my prediction: (dates the envelope and seals it)

They'll launch a full fledged PPC program but will not do away with the directory.

They'll just replace the current Overture sponsored listings at the top and bottom of every page with their own and take all of the revenue instead of just a cut from the big 'O'.

They won't do away with the directory because it serves their visitors *and* they're being paid handsomely for submissions.
( to the tune of up to 1/4 of a Million dollars per day )

Whether Overture or Yahoo themselves collect the dime for the sponsored listings doesn't mean a thing to me personally... *unless* they start emphasizing them to draw more clicks away from the directory.

(which they probably will do to some degree... but not anything near replacing the directory or they'll stop getting that juicy influx of $299.00's showing up on their merchant account balance sheet )

And since I'm filling in for the Amazing Kreskin today with predictions...

As far as algorhythm, I expect to see much more of the Googlerythm type search results drawn from their own directory.

This will make it a bit harder for folks to Title and Description their way to the top... that tactic will still work, but we'll have to work harder for it by adding good link pop and relevant anchor text from external links to hold the top slots.

the Overture Yahoo deal was 3 years, doubt they would break it.

I am seeing the same thing. A search that usually returns 7 directory sites, then google listings is returning Google only listings.

Strange...

humor gave me matches that i can only assume came from the directory. if i click web sites (at the bottom), i get google results.

is this what y'all are talking about?
