Listed in Yahoo on the 14th - Still now showing in searches

Have they not updated their directory data?

Hi all, I submitted to yahoo and was accepted a day and a half later.. My site still shows with the "new" next to it at the top of my directory section. I take my description and type it in yahoo and it doesent bring up my site.. I type in the site title and that doesnt bring up my site either..

Is this happening because they havent updated yet? I dont get it.. I show in the directory section but even when typing in my site title that still doesnt bring up my site in yahoo.com

Try back tracking any referrals.

Ok Helpmebe, the exact same thing I am noticing with my website that was listed in yahoo last tuesday. It simply is not searchable.

I called yahoo customer support and a rep got on the phone searched it and said "your website is coming up in our database." Simply wasn't true from the multitude of computers I have tried it on.

Strangely though, a trickle of website traffic has come through the site from people searching in yahoo. Here's what I have concluded:

1) Any site listed in Yahoo from last tuesday on is not searchable by the general internet public.
2) For a small percentage of people these websites are searchable in the database

It seems as if yahoo is experimenting with a few different search formats. Let me know what you can uncover as well.

Try calling customer care to see what they tell you:

Ivyedge,
Cool.. thanks for the phone # too.. I am glad I am not the only one who had this happen to.. I checked out some sites listed a few days before me that are still labeled as "new" and are grouped in the top of the category as well.. I searched for them by plugging in their yahoo decription and up they came, but when I did the same looking for my own site, I did not turn up. I will give them a call hopefully sometime later today.. assuming i have time today.. I will post or sticky mail you what I find out...

Thanks again...

Ivy,
I just called them.. curiosity has got me.. along with the lack of what good it would do to be in their if we do not turn up in searches.. anyway.. I just called that # you gave me, very helpful they were and the guy found that atleast for our website, we werent turning up in searches.. he told me to email 'url-support@yahoo-inc.com' with your yahoo submit order # and explain to them that you arent being found in a search but see yourself listed in that part of the directory.. I mean I searched by copying our yahoo description and pasting it in yahoo.com and still nothing.. so obviously we arent in the database or something.. ughh!

Helpmebe,

Starting from last week Monday the 12th is the last day that I can find the newly added websites in the searchable database. From my end, every site listed in yahoo's what's new since the 12th is not in the database.

When I called yahoo they told me "yes, your website is popping up in our search."

They also told me that once the "new" tag is gone...it should definitely be searchable. That will be tomorrow for my site (listed on the 13th). I'll let you know if tomorrow I am in.

Ivy,
Cool..thanks.. please do let me know how it turns out for you.. I also found the same exact thing as the sites being searchable right before ours got listed.. We are defintely on the same page, their is defintely something up with this.. Likewise.. I will let you know what they tell me once they answer my email inquiry.. they atleast acknowledged by phone that something was wrong.. well good luck.. speak with you shortly...

When I searched this morning my site still wasn't coming up. I noticed that on my stats page I was getting searches from yahoo canada...I tried a search on the canadian page and sure enough my site came up. Conclusions:

1) yahoo has many databases
2) the main american database (northeast U.S. prob) simply has not been updated yet
3) getting a small amount of canadian traffic should well translate into a huge amount of traffic once yahoo updates all its databases.

They have been having ISSUES with their search function. The last site I submitted (about the same time as you guys are reporting) the site wasn't searchable in the usual 2-4 days.

But, it was searchable as of a day or two ago, which is a GOOD thing. :) Not sure if they are having problems or it's a precursor of changes to come, but it's nice that whatever issue(s) was fixed.

Hi,

I just put the site in question under my profile homepage.

Still not in the database.

Check if it comes up from your end.

Thanks

I didn't send an e-mail.

No website is searchable since last monday, so let's say after another week or two
they'll be 5,000 unhappy yahoo express people.

I'm sure they are aware of it and are working on it.

In the meantime I am simply giving better phone support to my canadian clients.

Brian,
Ughh! Sounds like your having fun offering phone support while you wait... I was hoping somehow to get this picked up by google sometime soon.. guess we will all have to wait on this one.. by the way..you know that yahoo takes in and adds about 900 sites a day.. by now.. they probably have about 6k or 7k of us waiting.. a week or two from now??? Could imagine how many of us ...... their could be!? YIKES!

We will continue the waiting game...this yahoo listing is my holy grail.

If it every gets searchable...i'm taking everyone out for pizza.

If it doesn't- look for me cleaning the local area pools.

Sometimes you're in within a day or two. Sometimes it takes a while.
Give it a few more days and you'll probably be fine.
Get the # for the pizza guys ready ;)

Looks like at approx 8:37 eastern standard time yahoo updated its database. Pizza is currently being distributed and eaten.

Sorry, got that a bit wrong. You are #1 on the .com and #31 on .uk, but using the all option, not just uk.

Is this what you wanted to hear ;)

right...in the uk search I come up #31

When I go to yahoo from my computer here in the sates

I come up #1

Well...looks like I won't be getting to know any new English bloaks (is that the correct word?)
any time soon.

fraid not! Blokes is the correct word though! Wouldn't worry though, they're not up to much over here ;)

Obviously you're not listed when I search for UK only sites but must be using a different directory on the worldwide search to the one in the US.

Still, you've done well to get #1!

I have had this problem too, the new site was accepted this week and was appearing in the results yesterday (22nd) and is gone today. If was coming #1 for the target keyword but now for any search it’s gone.

I assume (hope) that they are changing a few things around this week!

This google update if it is going to be as what is showing on uk.yahoo.com will defintely be a help.. in the top 20 for most of the 2k pages on the site.. still need to move that up but things is a rolling! haha.. :)

Cheers!

So how long will it take from the bizzex letter that you have been approved, to your site actually showing up in some searches?
