Usual reasons for a big drop on Yahoo?

6 months ago my site was in the top 5 for 'keyword keyword'. Now its no 35. What are the usual reasons on Yahoo for a drop like this?

Can it be fixed?

Could be any number of things starting with something as basic as the changing of the Yahoo directory algo. Could also be related to:

* slow loading index page/site

* too much interlinking with other sites of yours (cover your tracks)

* new sites being added that are "more" optimized

* existing sites that are re-optimized and rising.

* others? Just let your paranoia run wild.

Yes, it can be fixed through persistent study and application.

There is evidence that PageRank could have an effect on the rankings of Yahoo Web Sites. Do the pages above you have a higher page rank? It isn't the only thing they use for rankings but it could be a piece of the puzzle.

Yea, I should have made myself a bit more clear in my previous post. Page Rank is really what I was referring to when I used the word "optimized" in conjunction with a yahoo directory placement.

I have just taken over managing the site. It has always had a slow loading page and a popup, even when it was in top 5. My new version went online a couple of weeks ago: I have killed the popup and made the load time good.

The site doesn't have much in the way of links (one or two good ones). I have just added one reciprocal link from my main site and it, I don't do major interlinking.

* new sites being added that are "more" optimized - Google PR.
Hmmmm, I should seek better PR.

- better PR again. Is the Yahoo-Google deal due to end sometime soon?

i dont think its any of these.....my site just went from 10th to 22nd position for my favorite key word over the weekend, however, yahoo gave me much better position on other related key words in the same category.why does yahoo do this ? i have no clue but i suspect they are trying out new sites, trying out new related keywords, etc. i really doubt its based on PR as yahoo is run and operated by humans as opposed to being totally controlled by a robot. my 2 cents
