$299/year for Yahoo Express, or is it?

To submit a site using Yahoo Express, you have to pay an initial $299, no matter what category you are submitting to. No surprises there.

Now as for the recurring $299, it appears at first glance that this applies to all sites that have used Yahoo Express.

However, if you read section 2.4 in the Yahoo Express terms very carefully, it says that sites placed in the "Commercial Directory" will be subjected to the recurring fee.

So it appears to me that the $299 recurring only applies to sites that have been placed in a commercial category (a yellow category), but sites that have used Yahoo Express and have been placed in a non-commercial category (a blue category) only have to pay the inital $299.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I right or wrong?

Note: I found this out @ searchenginewatch.com, a respectable publication run by Danny Sullivan. Search for Yahoo on his site and you will find out what I am talking about.

Hi Heavy_D, welcome,

Here is the section in their TOS you are referring to:

[docs.yahoo.com...]

I think what you are saying sounds right but other users will have to confirm as I don't have experience with this.

The way you describe it has been my understanding as well, but since the annual fee was only instituted in late December no one really has any first-hand experience with it yet. That is no one has yet come to the end of their first year...

If it's non-commercial, the only thing you're paying for is the "express" inclusion. If it's non-comercial, then what's the hurry?

I submitted a non-commercial site and it was listed within a couple weeks, for free. That's perfectly fine performance.

Heavey_D,

I think that if you pay to get listed, regardless of whether the site is commercial or non-commercial, you're subject to pay the recurring fee.

I'm not sure, this is just my opinion.

I just submitted a non commercial site via express, and in my confirmation email they say I'm responsible for yearly fees. And I am listed in a non-commercial category. But I do wonder if they really will yank my site if I don't pay?

I called Yahoo at 408-349-5151 (customer support) and the Rep. confirmed that Yahoo Express Sites in Non-Commercial categories are subject to $299.00 recurring fees :-(
