I submitted a site to Yahoo about two weeks ago with a PR6. The site was accepted and has been added to the directory. The site has targeted keywords in title, category name, and description. The top 10 websites for my keyword have PR6 or less, yet I am at the absolute bottom of a long list. Way way way below sites with PR0-4.. and sites with much lower PR's without keywords in title. I don't get it. When will Yahoo update? When will my rankings improve? Am I stuck down here? Does anyone have any information on when Yahoo factors in pagerank once the site has been accepted?

Yahoo updates different categories differently. I have a category that updates every Friday, others update once a month.

Only after the update will Yahoo factor PR in. Wait a bit and you should be at the top.

Do keep in mind that sometimes sites have all the "right" elements but still don't rank.

We had a site that recently received a Google PR0 and within a few days of the update had disappeared to the bottom of the Yahoo search results for all of the main phrases that it had been previously appearing well for.

Turns out that the front page had been accidentally mangled by the webmaster and it didn't validate properly (missing head tags etc) - hence the PR0. It still displayed properly in IE and NN... hence the problem wasn't spotted for some time.

I can't believe that we used to argue here about whether Google ever influenced the Yahoo search results. It seems pretty obvious now! :)

It really seems like Yahoo *should* take PR into account when the site is initially submitted and included in the directory. It sucks that we have to wait until an update.

...most of the time when a listing looks good but doesn't rank, take a closer look at the cat you are in, compared to others in the SERP.... you won't be able to change it, but at least you will know why it didn't work.

(...that said, I'm talking about sites which have already settled... not new sites just submitted)
