I told him I am not very sure of how well a good listing pays off.
What has been the experience of others here concerning Yahoo?
Is it worth it? Or does it barely pass the smell test?
Here's what I suggest:
1. Identify your client's keywords
2. Make sure the title of the site matches the primary keywords (if he wants to keep the existing site, can you change the title? if he's open to suggestions, maybe you can create a doorway site optimized for the primary keywords)
* if you register a new domain, use the new title for the Whois registration
3. Type the keywords into Yahoo. Check what categories come up and submit to one of the top categories (or one where the keyword matches)
4. Submit the website with the primary keywords as the title, and the keywords included in the description.
Very soon after (of before if you can), build up the Page Rank of the site by exchanging links with other sites.
If you're able to follow these steps, you're likely to get well ranked and then the traffic is excellent and qualified.
