We are all assuming from what I have seen that search engine results in the new contract period may appear in the same way as the existing. eg: As backfill as "web pages".
However Y! seems to be doing a lot of changes lately. Is anybody thinking that we may have a surprise coming up e.g. more than one set of SE database results used as "backfill"; A whole reorganization of the now discrete division in Web sites and Web pages?; less emphasis on backfill, more on Y!'s own database and PPC - (I am listing the last option as Y!'s style now is to monetize as much as possible and I feel are making efforts to imporve the quality of their own index, inlcuding listing more non-paid-for info and non-commercial sites.)
However, we are assuming that their Se partner would provide results for display in the same way as is done now. As backfill in "Web Pages". All im saying is that may change this structures of SERP's too given the latest activity on their "look" changes, policy directions under the new management, and my perception that they are working hard to increase the qaulity of the non-paid non-commercial informational contect of their own directory.
My feeling is they may go with Fast, but it may not be in the same way they worked with Google -possible a reduced role.
Its only speculation of course, but its fun! It may well be a straight away of Fast results for google results still, but there are other options/possibilities too. Remember they also have overture to play with.
This is interesting speculation. I had thought of of something similar, example: Teoma for English speaking countries and Fast for Continental Europe and maybe another for Asia. Such a model might be attractive especially if Yahoo can get a commission on PFI programs. Commercial interests would then have to pay PFI several times if they wanted a global reach.
There is also something to be said for not putting all your eggs in one basket.
I don't think Teoma is quite ready, although I'm sure they could start spidering like crazy once a contract was signed.
And I think you are right, Yahoo may have still other plans for changing the presentation of the data. This ought to be facinating.
2-1 Google
2-1 FAST
4-1 Goog+FAST in some joint arrangement
5-1 Ink
10-1 Bar
No inside track.... just wild guesses like everyone else
6-4 FAST
2-1 Google
4-1 Google+FAST in some joint arrangement
5-1 Ink
10-1 Bar
All I know of FAST is that their index has got fatter....and they provide results for a few more portals, but nothing like Google has over the time that they have been associated with Yahoo.
So I'm asking, why FAST at 6/4? :) Yahoo just going to flex their muscles and say "no google no thank you" or something like that?
1. Google-yahoo hasnt updated
2. A pretty transparant hint from RC in the next week rock and roll thread in Foo
3. Brett's find of yahoo's secret ATW SERP :)
4. The fast increase in ATW's database in the last months
5. Fast's known ambitions
6. Fasts's CEO statement that they are "in talks" with y! if they were an outsider i dont think he would have stressed this much
7. Industry acknoeledgement of the quality of Fast's underlying process - even the US Gov gave their contract to Fast as a foreign company with a strong local field.
8. In any orignaizations, "Shock" announcements are usually delayed to the last moment to give the PR department as much time as possible to get geared up. If they went for the status quo I think they would have already announced.
9. A need for Y! to downgrade the branding that their partner gets. I would suspect if its Fast, that Fast branding will be less evident. Fast, unlike google is an "info or knowledge management system" not a search engines as we all know. Alltheweb is fast's showcase of their capabilities. It sorta comes half way between the Goog and Da' Ink.
10. The last one is interesting - iid say that brotherhood has it right, tho it was a question. Y! would love to see the reaction proving that Y! is still important. One reason is a need for love (or respect!) The other reason is that such reports will improve its image of influence and leadership, which is a spin it badly needs.
I think Napolean's odds seem fairly good, albeit with my riders as suggested way up the thread.

I should be used to it by now, but uncertainty causes me.... well... uncertainty. I don't like it!
If google and Y! signed the deal.....almost seems like it would be a turn up for the books from what I read :)
I think I'd be happy either way....FAST and Google seem to rank my sites very similarly (suggesting their algo's are pretty much the same) from my own view.......
If the deal was meant to be in June they're running outta days :)
This doesn't necessarily mean that Yahoo will be continuing with Google though - this would have been the 24th month of the contract, would it not? So it may be that we will have to wait for the next update for Yahoo to announce the new deal, if they don't do it on Monday :(
