Click Popularity

Can someone explain how it's used?

Relatively new to Webmaster World, and I imagine this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find an answer.

How does Yahoo use the click popularity data it collects when you click on a link in the directory? Is it worth my clients' efforts to click on their own links? Are IPs tracked on each click, and if so can they be punished for clicking on their own link? etc., etc.

I looked in the Yahoo FAQs thread, which mentioned this briefly, but I'm hoping for a lengthier explanation.

Thanks in advance.

Hi pleeker, welcome to WmW!

To be honest, I don't really think this is a factor. Maybe it used to be a long time ago, but I haven't seen clickthrough as a factor in the categories I monitor.

If I were you, I'd focus more on getting link partners and improving your Google Page Rank. If you have a good title and description in the directory, this is what'll help your client rank better in the Yahoo search results.
