I have a few sites that got a noticeable surge in Y! traffic in the last 4 days.....but as far as I can tell, my ranks are the same as usual.

anyone else see this? it just strikes me strange... when I first saw it, I went to Y! thinking there might be changes in one thing or another....

:) I think it's due to Yahoo using Google's pagerank as a barometer....

Read on the other threads about this new phenomenon, it should help :) The way I see it, is that Yahoo is using Google's PR to rank sites in their web directory when you do a search...

Hope that helps.

hey jeremy_goodrich :) ....long time....

I hear you on that, but my ranks haven't changed... so pr or not, the cause does not revolve around the site's change of ranking...

In my mind, the only thing that can cause that is Y! getting a *massive* boost in overall traffic (not likely), or their *use* of that traffic. (more likely).... NFFC thought it might be an attempt to make better use of their data, so less goes to the backup serps, and they save money. I noticed that they seem to be parsing more compound words and highlighting them on the serps pages lately...

here is an example: 'stock quote'
[search.yahoo.com...]

#7 Stockguide  - listing of micro-stocks searchable by company name, symbol, or industry and direct links to their sites.
[stock[...]
More sites about:  Financial News > [b]Quote
s

.... in the above example:
'stocks' and 'Quotes' shows that it can grab the singular root word (depending on the word) .... This *might* open up *some* results,

...but it's probably something else:) I'm the only one seeing this... That's cool..... that tells me something too..... now I just have to figure out exactly what that is:)

I've seen an uptick for YAHOO! referrals for one site in particular in the last week or so with no change in ranks.

When traffic analysis time of the month comes, we'll see if the same is true on other sites.
