I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I have a site thats ranking 1 in google with a PR of 5 for the keywords I targeted, but the site's no where to be seen in MSN or Yahoo - Directory, is there anyway of getting the site into these two without paying anything???

There's no such thing, chowcat. Asking is the only way to get answers, so ask away, any time.

There's no way into either the Looksmart or Yahoo directories for commercial sites without paying. Non-commercial sites can find a back door into LS through Zeal, with Yahoo I suppose it can't hurt to try.

The way to be more easily found at either, where there are a lot of directory sites first, is to have an interior page rank for an alternative, less competitive keyword phrase that has few directory listings competing. For Yahoo that would be the Google results, and for MSN pages would need to be optimized for Inktomi. Those phrases are often very targeted and can bring good results on their own.

Yahoo doesnt have a problem with non commercial sites getting listed in the directory for free.

I recently got listed within a week of submission, into a good category too. The site in question also has a banner on it, so to a degree is "commercial".

Thanks to Marcia I have got my site listed in Zeal from previous advice and now get good traffic

Thanks... it is a commercial site so I think I'll pay the $299 and cross my fingers!

You can get into the Yahoo directory for free by submitting to a local directory in another country such as Germany.

Alby, submitting through other countries isn't guaranteed to work. However, if you have the time to wait for your submission to get listed, it might be worth it.

The site I have developed is for a motorcycle dealer.

However there are no e-commerce facilities or banner ads. Would this be treated as a commercial or non-commercial site?
