I recently bought a domain because it was listed in Yahoo and had good rankings under my kw's. Now, I was very naive in thinking that Yahoo didn't check for dead links... but I have seen so many that I thought they didn’t.

I had nothing on the domain for about 2 weeks, because my site isn't ready, and today it dropped out of Yahoo... :( Be careful of letting your site go down if you want to stay in Yahoo.

What do you think, any chance of getting it re-listed if I put a working site up asap and email them saying I had a problem with my host?

Worth a try, but be real quick. Remember though that they could check the wayback machine (www.archive.org) to see the previous version and compare contact numbers and addresses.

Let us know how you go.

Alby, I had the same situation, except I put up something on the Yahoo listing and made it live. - (RECONSTRUCTION - Not under construction). The site had been down for a while (2-3 months) waiting for the transfer. I guess I lucked out with Yahoo, but the site also had a LookSmart listing. Evidently that got checked, and, goodbye Looksmart listing.

Probably just luck that the Yahoo stayed in, just a matter of timing, I guess. I also got a link check today on that site from Yahoo.

They do have a bot that checks for links periodically. I know some do get under the radar somehow, but it's best to be careful.

You can write to them and you might get re-listed (if you get lucky).

Thanks for your support.

Thanks for the tip on the "wayback" machine. That is really scary, all your old sins can be found... :) If they check it I have no chance.

I will let you know what happens.

Alby, you could try banning the wayback machine via the robots.txt file which may then erdicate any previous version from the database. Might take a while and might not work, but might be worth a try. (You can tell I am real sure about this huh? )

Amazingly enough I did manage to get the domain re-instated in Yahoo! There are some very friendly people there and I was lucky to get a hold of one of them.

PS. I didn't bother with trying to ban the "wayback machine" or anything like that.

That's interesting. You managed to get the email address for that domain name listed Yahoo! changed to yours?

Omni, I don't understand your question? I managed to get a domain reinstated that was previously removed from the Yahoo directory.

I don't have a site listed at Yahoo! so not too sure how it works so if I get it wrong someone please correct me...

I thought when you get your site listed at Yahoo! you have to give an email address. So the original owner of the domain name would have his/her domain name at the Yahoo! database - which wouldn't be yours I would presume.

Were you able to change it from the original owner's email address to yours? Please someone correct me if I got it all wrong... probably a stupid question..

Hmm, I didn't know this. I have never listed a new domain in Yahoo, only bought domains that were already there...

I think it would be strange if you could never correspond with yahoo from another email address than the one that was registered with Yahoo? That means that if you sold a domain name the new owner could never communicate with Yahoo?

The email I sent was certainly connected with the domain name in questions, (something@mydomain.com), so there was no reason for them to doubt that I was the owner of the domain.

Forgive me for the confusion. I meant when you suggest a website over here [add.yahoo.com...] don't you provide an email address (that does not need to be a Yahoo! address) which Yahoo! add to their database? (not sure about this would need someone to confirm it...)
