Both still use NavTech as the base technology. Yahoo just cut out the middle man.

I just pulled up the same address on both Yahoo and MapQuest. I must say, I like the look of Yahoo better. The map is easier to read.

Of any one thing I could pick, online mapping has to be the poster child for the "web is useful" movement. On the other hand, when a technology is so widely used that it gets routine it gets hard to capture marketshare.

BTW, try [mapblast.com...] -it's the old Vicinity platform. I used to prefer it over MapQuest.

One thing I love about Mapquest is the Arial Photo option. Sometimes a map is not enough like the terrain.
