Wondered if anyone knew what this visit is about from Yahoo? Haven't seen this one in the logs before (from WebTrends report):

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 4.0; Yahoo-1.0; MSIECrawler)
21 hits 2 user sessions

My guess would be that it was human visitor reviewing your site. Have you submitted your site to Yahoo and when did you do it. Did you use the express submit or free submit form?

I've seen this a few times recently. I'm afraid I don't think it's a Yahoo reviewer. The Yahoo-1.0 is the branding of the IE version that was used. Lycos do the same, as I'm sure do other SE's. I've checked a few of the hosts against the entries with this and none of them are pointing anywhere close to Yahoo!.

To detect a Yahoo! reviewer you need to be looking up the host. If host is something like surf.yahoo.com (replace surf as appropriate) then it's a good chance it's a Yahoo! reviewer. Sometimes you can also tell from the referring string. They also normally seem to browse with Netscape not IE.

The other entry you will find in your logs is add1.yahoo.com (or poss. add.yahoo.com). This is a link checker that will retrieve the URL you have just submitted to make sure it's valid. The timing of this entry will coincide with your submission.

Hi Websurfer. I submit some of our pages or sites as needed on a weekly basis. So far everything I've gotten listed has been through the free submit. Haven't had much luck over the past three months.

DavidP, I've seen the surf.yahoo.com before and we do have sites listed in Yahoo. Right I forgot about them using Netscape will keep that in mind. Thanks about the link checker, will watch for this.

"The Yahoo-1.0 is the branding of the IE version that was used."

So this is just the browser version used in this visit?
